Haftarah Isaiah 43:21- 44:23
Priesthood Instructions 1 Corinthians 11-16
“What Do They Mean: The Levitical Sacrifices”
“Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘If a person sins unintentionally in any of the things which the LORD has commanded not to be done, and commits any of them, if the anointed priest sins so as to bring guilt on the people, then let him offer to the LORD a bull without defect as a sin offering for the sin he has committed. ‘He shall bring the bull to the doorway of the tent of meeting before the LORD, and he shall lay his hand on the head of the bull and slay the bull before the LORD.”
2. Leviticus is the continuation of the book of Exodus
a. The Master Builder has built a home in each of us! But if we do not follow the blueprints for successful completion of our building then we will not have the same outcome!
Matthew 7:24-27 says, 24“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
3. Moving in to receive the Blessings of Your Inheritance
a. The Abrahamic Covenant was UNCONDITIONAL but the MOSAIC COVENANT IS CONDITIONAL. If you do not do it—you FORFEIT YOUR BLESSINGS
b. It is a privilege to walk in the Mosaic Covenant—its our choice—God wants HIS covenant BRIDE to walk with him as a “free will offering of the Heart!” (Ex. 35:21)
c. Now that the Children had built the Tabernacle, and God had “moved into His dwelling” it was time to learn HOW to live with God in HIS RESIDENCE
d. YOU are the Temple of God and it is important to learn how to function as the Temple and the area’s and details that give you the MAXIMUMS of “LIFE” with God!
4. The function of the Priesthood is done today by US! 1 Peter 2:5
a. The Book of Leviticus is OUR instruction booklet on how to live in the Tabernacle of God!
b. The Book of Leviticus is our instruction manual for drawing near to God
c. The Ancient Sages taught that not everyone did the offerings; it was the function of the sacrifices to make one HOLY!
d. The sacrificial walk—was meant for all—but NOT EVERYONE PARTICIPATED—ONLY those who sought a deeper walk of Holiness with God!
5. THE OLAH Offering—a Volunteer offering (Lev 1:1-17)
a. The OLAH—This Offering is the Elevation Offering—smoke ascending to God
b. The Greek word for OLAH is “HOLOCAUSTIA” –meaning wholly and totally consumed
c. The OLAH was offered for “IMPURE THOUGHTS” and “FAILURE TO PERFORM A REQUIRED ACTION” and this offering was Voluntary or it was not accepted
d. The Animals represent people (Acts 10:9-29 PETERS SHEET VISION) and the OLAH is how we treat others today as it says in Philippians 2:3 “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves!”
6. The Meal Offering or the MINCHAH—a Volunteer Offering (Lev 2:1-17)
a. This is the Grain Offering—this is a GIFT OF GRATITUDE TO GOD
The flour made of this grain was mixed with Oil and Incense
b. The MINCHAH always includes Salt: Salt can destroy and Preserve-just like TORAH Mark 9:49-50 says, “49Everyone will be salted with fire. “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with each other.”
c. The GRAIN OFFERING TODAY—is our Communion Meal—we call Oneg
7. The Fellowship/Peace Offering-or SHELAMIM –volunteer offering (Lev 3: 1-17)
a. Shelamim comes from the word Shalem—or SHALOM. This is blessing God with a Holy Greeting.
b. The SHELAMIM or FELLOWSHIP OFFERING today is our meeting on SHABBAT. Staying outside on Sabbath does not constitute keeping the fellowship offering requirement!
c. If we try to keep the peace of Shabbat—but quarrel all the way to services—or hold offenses against or brothers and sisters—do we think God will accept this sacrifice? (Matt 5:22-24)
d. The first three offerings were voluntary—they are the Heartbeat of the TABERNACLE.
8. The SIN OFFERING—or CHATAS and the GUILT OFFERING or ASHAM Both were Required—Lev 4:1-5:13 and Lev 5:14-6:7
The SIN OFFERING—is required for unintentional sins resulting from CARELESSNESS or LAXNESS with the things of God.
a. NO ONE in ALL ISRAEL WAS EXEMPT (Romans 3:23)
b. The Guilt Offering—is required for a person who unintentionally misappropriated sanctuary property –any sin against the body
c. It also covers intentional sins like LYING-TALKING ABOUT OTHERS (LASHON HARA)—any inherent STATUS destruction of our neighbors or OURSELVES—YESHUA IS OUR SIN AND GUILT OFFERING!
9. How do we live this today?
a. We purge and renew our minds—and esteem others better than ourselves (Elevated Burnt Offering)
b. We live as Salt in the World Destroying Sin and Preserving Righteousness in “Communion” with the Spirit of God (Grain Offering)
c. We fellowship together on Shabbat and not go our own way—being Peacemakers (Fellowship Offering)
d. We accept Yeshua’s gift for our Sins—by NOT SINNING ANYMORE—and by NOT DWELLING ON GUILT–BUT WHAT GOD’S WORD SAYS ABOUT US! (This is the Sin and Guilt Sacrifice)
Verse 18 of Chapter 5 of this portion is the culmination of everything that today’s believers call the “Gospel;” It talks about “the Way” and there is only one way–the way of Israel, the WAY of Torah which is Yeshua in the natural to us today. It says “He is to bring the Priest as a Guilt Offering a Ram from the flock” –this is Yeshua our Ram that was pictured as caught in the thorn bush in the story of our Fathers Abraham and Yit’zak (Isaac). This Ram had to come from the flock–meaning that the Eternal One-YHWH–would have to take on flesh and dwell among His people Israel; which He did in the body of Yeshua. We know this because the Ram had to be without defect–and OF PROPER VALUE according to Leviticus 5:18a. It goes on to say “And the Priest will make atonement for him (me) for the wrong he has committed unintentionally and he will be forgiven.” Is this not the entire story of Yeshua’s incarnate work here on earth–as the Kohen Gadol of a better Priesthood than that of Aaron, the order of Malki Tzadik, Yeshua made atonement for you and for me…once and for all time to come. It is this “At Onement” or atonement that grafts us into the Natural Olive Tree of God’s Chosen People called Israel. The church is a man made attempt at reaching up to grasp at atonement by some other way. Yeshua said that He was THE WAY and that any other way was the way of the thief and the liar. It is only when we accept our atonement and unification with Israel–not replacing natural Israelites–but being grafted in with them–as part of them, that we take on our status of “clean” before the Lord YHWH. We cannot clean ourselves and no amount of man made drivel will ever be enough; for we are cleansed by grace and through faith and not of works so no man can boast. There is none righteous–no not one–there is NONE that seeks God and His ways each and every day of their life. This is the point of the offerings–to remind us that our disobedience to Gods teaching and instruction found in the Torah of Moses–came with an extreme price–yet that price was paid by grace and is demonstrated by our faithful adherence to the commands of Torah. Yeshua said “You are my FRIENDS if you keep my commands–and this I command you that you love one another as I have loved you.” This means that we are to love Jews around the world with the same sacrificial love that Yeshua demonstrated for us. He never wavered, never compromised and never gave up on the children of Israel whom he bought with a price…..so we too should never waiver in our commitment to love the Jewish people throughout the world–to honor them and their position as the original priesthood and royal nation…..in so doing–you demonstrate your atonement with the God of Israel, YHWH–Yeshua the Messiah who we wait in joyful hope of seeing face to face in our lifetime. The Levitical Priesthood contains the Gospel of Yeshua in Chapter 5 and verse 18–so to say a “new” covenant has set the former aside as irrelevant is to demonstrate our lack of understand of who and what Yeshua was. He was and is the ONLY WAY to know YHWH in this life and the pathway is open to men of every nation who wish to give up their former lives and begin living the lifestyle that pleases YWHW that is demonstrated in the Jewish Lifestyle of Yeshua of Nazareth–the Son of David–the one and only living God. There is only ONE God (Deuteronomy 6:4) and there is only one way……to make our lives a living Offering (sacrifice) that is Holy and acceptable to YHWH which is our reasonable life service–there is nothing else.
