Rosh Hashanah
The Wedding of the HaMelech (The Great King)

G-d ordained marriage as becoming one flesh in Torah

Adam and Eve

Genesis 2:21-24

Rosh Hashanah
The Wedding of the HaMelech (The Great King)

Jeremiah 23:5-6 Messiah’s name is called

“The L-rd our righteousness”

Jeremiah 33:15-16 The name of the Bride Shall be called “The L-rd our righteousness”

The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

Step One: Selection of the Bride

A-Chosen by the Father of the Groom

B-Father sends his most trusted servant—known as the “Agent of the Father,” to search for the bride  Genesis 21:2-4

Genesis 24:2-4

2 He said to the chief [1] servant in his household, the one in charge of all that he had, “Put your hand under my thigh. 3 I want you to swear by the LORD , the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I am living, 4 but will go to my country and my own relatives and get a wife for my son Isaac.”
The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

We are chosen by G-d to be Messiah’s Bride—we do not do the choosing!

John 15:16

John 15:16

16You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit–fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.

The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

Rebekkah agrees to marry Isaac whom she had never seen

We consent to marry Messiah who we have not seen 1 Peter 1:8

1 Peter 1:18

8Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,

The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

Step Two—The Brides Price Established

A price would have to be paid for the Bride –This is Mohar in Hebrew

Yeshua paid the Bride’s Price with His life

Matthew 26:39

Matthew 26:39

39Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

Yeshua was saying—

1-the price of the bride had been established

2-agreeing that the Father had chosen the Bride

3- He was asking the Father if He realized how expensive this bride would be?

Our Mohar—was His life

1 Peter 1:18-19

1 Peter 1:18-19

18For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, 19but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

1 Corinthians 6:20

20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

Step three—The Bride and Groom are Betrothed

Kiddushin—the 1st of two steps in the marriage ceremony

Legally binding contractual agreement

Fully married—just do not live together yet

G-d betrothed Himself to Israel Jeremiah 2:2

Jeremiah 2:2

2 “Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem:

” ‘I remember the devotion of your youth,
how as a bride you loved me
and followed me through the desert,
through a land not sown.
The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

When you accept Jesus as L-rd you are betrothed to Him while on Earth

A written Document is written up that signifies this union

This is called a Kettubah

The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

Kettubah—is a marriage contract

It sets the brides price

Promises of Support and Protection

It is the unalienable right of the Bride

Sealed prior to the wedding day—in effect

The Bible is YOUR KETTUBAH

All it’s promises and responsibilities are unalienable YOURS!

The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

Step 4—The Bride must give consent

G-d betrothed Israel at Mt. Sinai (Jer 2:2)

Israel consented by saying “I do” Exodus 24:3

Exodus 24:3

3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”

The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

We are to do the same today Romans 10:8-10

Romans 10:8-10

8But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,”[4] that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

Gifts were given to the Bride as a sign

The Cup of the Covenant

The act of Betrothal becomes legal when the Groom gives His Bride something of Value that She accepts

This complete rite in Hebrew is known as the Kiddushin—or Sanctification

This is why we call the communion cup the Kiddush Cup—its our Brides Cup

The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

These gifts that were given signify Loyalty, Honor, Love and Commitment

We receive all of these in the gift of the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit)

John 14:26-27

John 14:26-27

26But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

Yeshua gave us these other gifts as well

Righteousness Romans 5:17-18

Eternal Life Romans 6:23

Grace Romans 5:12, 14, 15

Faith Ephesians 2:8-9

Wisdom, knowledge, healing, working miracles, prophesy, discerning spirits, tongues and their interpretation 1 Cor 12:8-11

Gifts of Helps and Administration 1 Cor 12:28

The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

Step 5–The Couple then drinks from the Covenant Cup

The Cup given to the Groom First

Matthew 26:39

Matthew 26:39

39Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

Then the Cup is Given to the Bride

Galatians 2:20

Galatians 2:20

20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Jeremiah 31:31-33

31 “The time is coming,” declares the LORD ,
“when I will make a new covenant
with the house of Israel
and with the house of Judah.
32 It will not be like the covenant
I made with their forefathers
when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt,
because they broke my covenant,
though I was a husband to [4] them, [5] ”
declares the LORD .
33 “This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel
after that time,” declares the LORD .
“I will put my law in their minds
and write it on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people

The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

Step 6—The Mikvah

Mikvah is ceremonial washing

It indicates the end of the old life and the living of the new

Mikvah immersion is considered Spiritual Rebirth

Believers in Messiah are to be washed Acts 19:4

The Holy Spirit is the Immerser Luke 3:16

Luke 3:16

16John answered them all, “I baptize you with[3] water. But one more powerful than I will come, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire

The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

Step 7—The Bridegroom departs to prepare the Brides Chamber

It was the man’s duty to go away to His Father, build a house, and prepare for the Wedding

The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

Before the Bridegroom could return he had to satisfy all the conditions of the Father—that all things were proper and in order

While the groom built the bridal chamber—the Father okayed it!

During this time the Bride would wonder if Her groom would fulfill His word of return

2 Peter 3:1-13

2 Peter 3:1-13

Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking. 2I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles.
3First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”

2 Peter 3:1-13

5But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. 7By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
8But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day

2 Peter 3:1-13

9The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
10But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.[1]
2 Peter 3:1-13

11Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.[2] That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.
The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

Step 8-The Bridegroom returns with a shout!

They would Shout “Behold the Bridegroom Comes!”

The time of the Catching away was usually around Midnight 1 Thess 4:16-17

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

16For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

The Marriage took place under the Chuppah—the Wedding Canopy

Heaven is a Canopy over Earth

When Messiah comes and takes us away—the wedding will occur in Heaven

The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

Step 9—The Marriage Procession

The Bridegroom enters first

As the Groom approaches it was Chanted by the guests “Blessed be He who Comes”

Yeshua said He would not return until Israel cried “Baruch Haba Bashem Adonai”—Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the L-rd

The groom was greeted like a King under the Chuppah (Rev 5)

The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

Step 10 Abduction of the Bride

The Gathering was usually at Midnight

They would then enter the Bridal Chamber

They would stay for a week – 7 days

This is the completed Marriage called Nesu’in in Hebrew

At the end of 7 days they would emerge Joel 2:2

Joel 2:2

2 a day of darkness and gloom,
a day of clouds and blackness.
Like dawn spreading across the mountains
a large and mighty army comes,
such as never was of old
nor ever will be in ages to come.

The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

When they had been in the Chardar (Bridal Chamber) a friend of the Groom was stationed outside the door

The is s picture of the Ruach HaKodesh

The marriage is consummated during the first chamber night and is preserved as proof of the virginity of the Bride

The Hebrew word for Seven is Shavuah

Daniel 9:27

Daniel 9:27

27 He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’

The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

Step 11  The Marriage Supper

The supper was for all the guests invited by the Father

The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

Step 12-the Wedding Day

Groom is the King and the Bride the Queen

IS 62:3-7

Isaiah 62:3-7

3 You will be a crown of splendor in the LORD’s hand,
a royal diadem in the hand of your God.
4 No longer will they call you Deserted,
or name your land Desolate.
But you will be called Hephzibah, [1]
and your land Beulah [2] ;
for the LORD will take delight in you,
and your land will be married.
5 As a young man marries a maiden,
so will your sons [3] marry you;
as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride,
so will your God rejoice over you.

6 I have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem;
they will never be silent day or night.
You who call on the LORD ,
give yourselves no rest,
7 and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem
and makes her the praise of the earth.
The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

At the end of the Chadar week the Marriage supper takes place

This does not take place under the canopy—it will take place on Earth

Rev 19:7-16

Luke 12:35-38

Luke 12:35-38

35″Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, 36like men waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. 37It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. I tell you the truth, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them. 38It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the second or third watch of the night.

The Hebrew Wedding

The wedding Supper is the Theme of Sukkot

Biblical Feast Of tabernacles

Temporary Shelters are built, and we are commanded to eat in them

Unbelievers are invited to another banquet where the birds will eat their flesh Rev 19:17-18

Revelation 19:17-18

17And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in midair, “Come, gather together for the great supper of God, 18so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and mighty men, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, small and great.”

The Hebrew Wedding
12 steps to newness of Life

Jerusalem is the new Home of the Couple

This is the Millennial Reign

Rev 21:1-3

Revelation 21:1-3

1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God

8 They read from the Book of the Law of God, making it clear and giving the meaning so that the people could understand what was being read.
9 Then Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who were instructing the people said to them all, “This day is sacred to the LORD your God. Do not mourn or weep.” For all the people had been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law.
