This Weeks Torah Portion is “Bereshit: Genesis” meaning “In the beginning” Genesis 1:1-6:8
Read the “Haftarah: Prophets” is Isaiah 42:5—21
Read the New Covenant Priestly Instructions: Matthew 1-4, Mark 1-3, Luke 1-4
“What Does My Life Look Like To Others?”
Cain and Abel
1 Adam lay with his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, “With the help of the LORD I have brought forth a man.” 2 Later she gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. 3 In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the LORD . 4 But Abel brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering,
5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast. 6 Then the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it.” 8 Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.” And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him. 9 Then the LORD said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” “I don’t know,” he replied. “Am I my brother’s keeper?”
10 The LORD said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground. 11 Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12 When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.”
Man is made in God’s “Image and Likeness.”
1.Image means—We look like the Creator’s Physical Form
2.Likeness means we are to be likened unto the Creator by How We act
Adam and Chavah [Eve]
God’s sacrifice in the garden is the first blood atonement
Adam and Chavah tried to cover their own guilt with the leaves of the Tree’s: they knew they needed covering
God covered them with Skin
Skin in Hebrew is “Or” which is where we get the word, “Light”
Adam and Chavah [Eve]
When the skins of sheep are hung, stretched and dried—they are used to write the Torah on—this is referred to as the “Lambs Book of Life.”
These dried “leaves” are then sown together with lamb sinews and called “The Hem of His Garment” and there are 39 leaves per Torah Scroll.
The Garment worn by Adam and Chavah was called a “Katan” in Hebrew
Katan means a “hairy garment”
Adam and Chavah Have Children
Genesis 4:1 stated “1 Adam lay with his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain”
Cain was the first of a set of twin boys, the other was named Havel—or Abel in your Bibles
When Chavah saw her first son—She exclaimed in a loud voice
“Qaniti Ish Et YHWH”
In English this means:
“I have gotten a Man-YHWH”
Foreshadowing God Coming to Earth in Physical Form
A Tale of Two Brothers
Cain—Had some anger issues—He was a Farmer.
Abel—Lived Righteously by Faith—and was a keeper of flocks—A Shepherd
They both lived in the image of God but Only One lived in the Likeness of God
4 But Abel brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering, 5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.
6 Then the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it.”
At the Appointed Time……
“In the Course of Time” in Hebrew is the word “Moed’im” meaning the
“Feasts of God” –celebration of God’s Feast Days goes all the way back to Adam and his family; if your are a “redeemed Adam” these feasts are yours as well.
The Boy’s both brought two different Gifts to offer for a burnt offering to the Lord YHWH on His appointed Feast Day [Moed]
Cain was to be the High Priest and new that a “burnt offering” was to be an offering of a Lamb. However, Cain brought something from His own creative work—from the ground that had been cursed when Adam was expelled from the Garden.
Abel was the second born, and not the “appointed” Priest, but he brought a blood sacrifice, in Hebrew called the “Or” which means the “Light” located in the blood of the animal and to make atonement for unintentional sins.
Now the rest of the story:
God’s Faith Versus Our Works
Mass Delusion on the Body of Christ?
2 Thessalonians 2:11-12:
“9The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, 10and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie 12and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.”
What is the Truth?
Do not accept mans definitions of the Bible—the Bible defines the Bible:
Psalm 119:142, Psalm 119:151, 160
“119:142 Your righteousness is everlasting
and your law is true.”
God’s Righteous Laws are True—and like gravity is a law that us true and constant—so are all of God’s promises, “Yes and Amen” to those in Christ Jesus. People confuse the “Laws of Leviticus” with the “Laws of Moses;” Leviticus and its rituals have been done away with in Christ—but Moses instructions for how to live now that we are saved is present to empower our life!
So what is the Delusion—and what does that word mean?
Delusion is “Plane” in Greek
1) a wandering, a straying about
a) one led astray from the right way, roams hither and thither
a) mental straying
1) error, wrong opinion relative to morals or religion
b) error which shows itself in action, a wrong mode of acting
c) error, that which leads into error, deceit or fraud
14What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?
17In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. 18But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. 19You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that–and shudder.
20You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless…”
What is the “faith” James is referring too?
Strongs Concordance defines this Greek word as “conviction of the truth of anything.”
So what does “Works” Mean
Strongs Concordance defines this Greek word as “that which one undertakes to do, an enterprise, an undertaking”
What About believing in God?
You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that–and shudder. 20You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless 21Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar 22You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness
What is a Fraud?
Anything “Incomplete” that Passes itself off as the “Real Thing” is a fraud
Remember it comes from NOT obeying God’s Teaching and Instructions—His Torah
But What about the “New” Covenant
34 I will not violate my covenant or alter what my lips have uttered
His Commands Are Written on Our Hearts
31 “The time is coming,” declares the LORD ,
“when I will make a new covenant
with the house of Israel
and with the house of Judah.
32 It will not be like the covenant
I made with their forefathers
when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt,
because they broke my covenant,
though I was a husband to them, ”
declares the LORD .
33 “This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel
after that time,” declares the LORD .
“I will put my law in their minds
and write it on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
The Hebrew Word Used Hear that is mistranslated as “NEW”
Is the Hebrew Word “CHADASH” which Means:
1) to renew, make anew
2) to repair
The Levitical Priestly Covenant was flawed
Not because God could not make it perfect—but because we entered into the SAME SIN that plagued CAIN—That of Rebellion –we just didn’t do it!
1 Samuel 15:23
23 For rebellion is like the sin of divination,
and arrogance like the evil of idolatry.
Because you have rejected the word of the LORD ,
he has rejected you as king.”
The Apostle Paul’s Teachings
All Stress the Importance of God’s unique Oneness
Paul never Dreamed that his teachings would be used to make people disobey God’s commands which He gave to Moses that He called “HOLY… JUST and TRUE” in Romans 7:12!
Paul believed that “IF” the former “Gentiles” would turn their back on going their own way—that this would be PROOF that Yahushua (Jesus) IS the Promised Messiah of ALL Israel—and that this would open the eyes of our Jewish brothers and sisters to Jesus and His Messiahship!
I Corinthian’s 13:1
1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love (PROVEN THROUGH OBEDIENCE TO ALL GOD’S COMMANDS) I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
Cain or Abel: Which Brother do You resemble?
God’s likeness according to the Scripture is:
YHWH is the Tabernacle in the Wilderness; He is the Sacrifice; the Deliverer; He is the Sabbath; the Manna from Heaven; the Anointing Oil; the Shofar Blast of the Watchman; the Ark of the Covenant; the Balm of Gilead; Color in the Rainbow; Prince of Peace; the Door; the Yom Kippur Atonement Offering; the Wine and the Bread; the Face of YHWH; Your Sanctification; the Way; the Truth and the Life; the King of Kings; Compassion; Kindness; Joy; Love…etc. etc. etc.
12This calls for patient endurance on the part of the Saints who obey God’s commandments and remain faithful to Yeshua
WEEKLY DISCIPLESHIP QUESTIONS
This week as you read the Torah portion; the Haftarah and the instructionss for the New Covenant Priesthood– ask yourself these questions:
SUNDAY: How is my life today, reflecting the attributes of God’s Character that is demonstrated in the Life of Jesus to others?
MONDAY: Am I walking “above the fray” or do I spend most of my time walking through the “muck and mire of it?”
TUESDAY: As a born again Believer, what can you do to display God’s attributes to your Jewish Brothers and Sisters—without saying a word?
WEDNESDAY: What would a Believers life look like that was submitted to Jesus Lordship and striving to be obedient to the Torah of Moses?
THURSDAY: What does my life offering honestly look like to my neighbors; my co-workers; to my Pastors?
FRIDAY: When we raise our children, do we let them constantly break laws of the house without correction—and would we call a child who constantly broke those laws a “good and faithful” child?
SHABBAT SATURDAY: Yeshua is our ONLY righteousness,[Jeremiah 23:5-6] so works have never been a path of salvation [Leviticus 18:5]; what is it about doing ‘good deeds’ that so preoccupied the Apostle James thoughts that He would write, “Faith without works—is dead?”
